Mass Timber building design has evolved quickly from theoretical carbon sequestration and sustainable strategy to a real-world solution employed in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Matt has experience leading two projects currently being developed in North Carolina and Texas, each approximately 200,000 GSF of office and retail. The simple form of Timber Coast expresses a wooden skeleton veiled on two sides by a light curtainwall skin. The center of the form opens to reveal the wood and ground floor lobby. This project is a 6 Story Mass Timber Prototype developed to explore office space typology to push cutting-edge sustainable strategies. The building design includes carbon sequestration, 4” raised floor systems for cables, solar photovoltaics, reclaimed bricks, and high-performance curtainwall envelopes. The overarching message of the project is “challenge ourselves and the way we approach the future of the work (and living) environment.”
